CDF Hosts Community Conversation

On January 18, 2012 at the Clarkston Community Center, Clarkston Development Foundation gave a brief update about their current work in the Clarkston community around the four main priority areas:

  • Education
  • Family Advocacy
  • Health Services
  • Urban Agriculture

Work was also shared and posted on the walls and in a slideshow with pictures about the good work going on in and around the community by a number of different organizations. This included the City of Clarkston, Decatur/DeKalb YMCA, Clarkston Community Center, Refugee Family Services, and Friends of Refugees. In addition, some of the work that has been going on in the strategy groups was also listed on the walls so people could see it and sign up to be a part of it as well.

The work of the strategy groups has shaped and will continue to further shape and inform the work of Clarkston Development Foundation in all the 4 initiative areas but will also serve as a place for focused conversation on other work in the Clarkston community as well.

After the brief update on CDF, over 100 attendees broke into groups to do additional work on the topics that have emerged from the community conversations: Making and keeping Clarkston clean; strengthening the connection of the schools to the community and to students; and ensuring that the apartments are managed to benefit the residents who call them home.

As mentioned in the meeting, a report will be compiled from all the notes and will be provided to participants for their review. Stay tuned…

We want to thank everyone for their part in making the night a wonderful one and we look forward to coming together again soon!
