The Clarkston Festival Committee received a 6-month grant for $9000 from the Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta’s Neighborhood Fund. The Clarkston Festival, which will be held April 26, 2014, is focused on Educating, Celebrating and Appreciating the diversity of Clarkston, Georgia. The grant includes $5,000 to support the festival and $4,000 in community coaching for the committee.
The Clarkston Festival Committee was formed in 2012 in response to an expressed interest heard throughout the community for residents, neighbors, and stakeholders to come together for a common festival. Representatives from several interested groups came together to discuss the idea of working together towards this common goal.
After several meetings, the group began the process of organizing and gaining support. Meetings were held with the Clarkston city manager, a presentation was made to the city council and community meetings were held, all resulting in positive voices coming forth in support of the idea of a Clarkston Community Festival.
