A Multilingual early learning program primarily for 3 and 4 year old children in community settings.

Our READY Schools is a unique model designed by parents and advocates like you to close equity gaps.

CDF Action provides consulting, advisement, and technical assistance to help organizations adapt the READY School model to their communities.

Program Description

The READY School model was created by dedicated parents and advocates with the aim of addressing equity gaps for immigrant and refugee children aged three and four who have not yet entered formal care or Pre-K. The philosophy behind the READY School model is centered on providing culturally responsive education and support to these young learners, while also fostering their social-emotional development and preparing them for academic success.

At READY School, we understand that every child brings a unique set of experiences, culture, and language to the classroom. The program offers a crucial chance for children to engage with educators and classmates beyond their own household, opening up new avenues of interaction and learning.

Are You Eager to Explore an Opportunity for a READY School in Your Community?

The READY Schools initiative has been successfully implemented in two diverse communities of DeKalb County, namely Clarkston and Stone Mountain, along with one in Gwinnett County.

Each year, these programs cater to approximately 70 children and their families.

READY Schools & CDF’s Strategic Direction

CDF Action employs an asset-based community development approach to drive transformative change through three integrated levers in early care and learning activities. These levers encompass resident engagement, organizational collaboration, and innovative solutions. As one interviewee astutely observed, “Our model of social impact is deeply rooted in community listening. We view communities through a lens of assets, not deficits.”

READY Schools are established in direct response to the needs voiced by families.

The development and evolution of the READY Schools model exemplify CDF Action’s asset-based approach. These schools are intentionally designed in collaboration with early learning partners and community-based organizations, placing families at the center. They offer an innovative solution to address the challenges faced by families who often feel isolated and uncertain when navigating complex support systems.

READY School is a collaborative partnership with CDF Action, American Learning Academy and Scottdale Early Learning.

Testimonials

“I came here, and I didn’t know anyone. Because of the READY School, I met friends and some of them are my best friends. I’m now a teacher in the READY School.”

“When I came to the U.S., I couldn’t speak
English. I didn’t have a job. My daughter was
three, and I couldn’t work. My friend told me
about Miss Roberta. I told her that I need work
and my kids need an opportunity to learn. I was
a teacher in my county. I have been working with the READY School since 2015. I like the job and I like working with the kids. I can work part-time and take care of my family. I was able to take the test for the CDA in my language.

To start with the READY School was like a dream come true for me “
