CDF is pleased to partner with the Clarkston First Baptist Church to host United Way’s Vision and Voice Family Leadership Institute (FLI) in Clarkston, Georgia. The goal of the Family Leadership Institute is to build the skills and capacity of parents to take greater leadership roles in the systems serving their children and in the community.
Parents play a vital role in creating community. The FLI curriculum is a great fit for Clarkston and CDF as we focus on the gifts and talents of community members. The FLI works to further build these gifts and talents. We are fortunate to have strong community partners like Refugee Family Services, Mommy and Me, and Clarkston First Baptist Academy, who also see the value in a strong program like this. This is the first time the FLI has been hosted in Clarkston.
The Vision and Voice FLI was created by the Parent Services Project and begins on January 25. It includes a series of five workshops designed to train and support emerging parent leaders. The sessions aim to strengthen parents’ ability to be a leader of themselves, their family and their community in addition to learning about preparing for transition from home to early learning programs or to kindergarten.
The 2014 FLI begins January 25, 2014, for 30 enrolled parents, who are participating in one of the following programs: Mommy and Me Refugee Family Literacy Program, Clarkston First Baptist Academy, or Refugee Family Services Parents as Teachers. The five sessions will be held at the Clarkston First Baptist Family Life Center.
