On March 3rd, the Urban Ag Class arrived at the Clarkston Community Center to find it raining very hard. Fortunately, the water, because of the rainwater harvesting system that we had previously installed, was being collected and stored in the ground. We looked outside before starting our classroom portion of the day and took this picture…
By the time we were breaking for lunch, all but one rain basin was completely empty. It was great for everyone in the class to see how these were working to store so much water that would otherwise be running off the property and into the stormdrains.
After lunch, we came back and the class did a wonderful job of planting over two hundred perennial plants around the property. Believe it or not, this is just the beginning of what can be planted in this landscape in the future as well. Thanks so much to a wonderful class!
